Overview

The Visual Product Schematics Component is a Salesforce CPQ accelerator that helps sales users quote replacement parts from complex product assemblies. It displays PDF schematic diagrams alongside dynamic part selection controls inside the quote process.

Business Problem

Manufacturing sales teams often need to identify replacement parts from exploded-view diagrams, equipment schematics, or assembly drawings. Standard CPQ screens do not provide a visual parts-selection experience. Without a visual aid, users may search through product lists, misunderstand part relationships, or add the wrong component to the quote. This is especially challenging when assemblies contain many product options or replacement sub-components.

How It Works

The accelerator uses a custom Lightning Web Component accessed from the CPQ quote. The component renders the relevant PDF schematic and presents a dynamic picklist for selecting replacement parts or sub-components. It connects the visual selection experience to Salesforce CPQ data, including quotes, quote lines, product options, and bundle relationships. Apex supports the data retrieval and interaction with the CPQ model where configuration requires server-side logic.

Where This Fits

This accelerator fits manufacturers, equipment companies, industrial automation providers, automotive suppliers, and hardware organizations that quote parts from diagrams or product assemblies. The same component pattern can be adapted for different schematic libraries, product structures, CPQ bundle models, and parts identification processes. For reuse, the implementation should start by confirming the object model, required fields, record types, status values, ownership rules, and security model in the target Salesforce org. The existing pattern can then be adjusted for naming, page layout placement, validation rules, reporting needs, and integration points. Sample records should be used to test the automation path, exception handling, and user-facing screens before rollout. This keeps the accelerator grounded in the original delivered pattern while allowing the details to fit the new organization and its operating process fully.
